Located at No.13, Dongsi South Street, Dongcheng District, the Dongsi Mosque is the headquarters of the Beijing Branch of the Chinese Islamic Association.
The mosque was built in Ming dynasty (1368-1644) and has experienced several times restorations and renovations. The existing buildings include two gates, a prayer hall, minaret ruins and library, etc. The prayer hall can accommodate 500 people and the script of the Alcoran is carved on the hall’s arch gate; marriage and funeral services are also held here, and Chinese and foreign Muslims may come for daily or weekly prayers. The library houses valuable manuscripts of the Alcoran, the Hadith, and the Islamic law; works of Islamic philosophy, literature and history; and Islam classics presented by Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt and India, most of which are around two or three hundred years old with one Alcoran of about 700 years old, particularly valuable.
