The Kashgar Sunday Bazaar is the busiest part of the city. The market is a kind of agricultural market. It has expanded to include anything you can think of, including clothing, knives, and more. Conservative estimates put that area at least 5,000 stalls that see traffic of around 100,000 people daily. The mixture of people of different ethnic backgrounds from all over Central Asia descends on Kashgar to trade and buy various wares. People give the market an incredible atmosphere, so it is worth braving the crowds. The goods available include pots and pans, clothing, utensils and knives, and even live animals such as donkeys, goats and horses. Be cautious to protect yourself against pickpockets and bagslashers in these markets. It’s quite easy to lose your passport and money in these crowded markets.
The Kashgar Sunday Bazaar is accessible by walking down the streets leading southwest from Id Kah Square in the center of Kashgar, usually in front of Id Kah Mosque.
The Sunday Market meets along the road leading northeast out the city about a 30 minute walk from the city. Cycling is not the best option as you may not be able to find a place to park your bicycle. Another way to get to the Sunday market is by getting a donkey cart ride for a few RMB.
