The Great Wall at Jiankou is located in Huairou District, 80 km northeast of Beijing. The guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel and then drive about 2 hours to arrive in a village called Xizaizhi at the bottom of Jiankou Great Wall; passing through a picturesque valley on the way.
Start our hike. We will take a small mountain trail straight up to the wall. This part takes about 1 hour, and it is not that easy, but you will find it worth when we get to the top and stand on the huge wall: a deserted watch tower is right where we emerge into the Wall, from which you will have a panoramic view of the whole valley, of the Xizaizhi village, and of the wall itself, snaking and disappearing over the mountain crest. The hike along the wall will take about 4 hours and it is fairly easy though the wall runs along the mountain crest. One highlight is the watch tower known as ‘Ying Fei Dao Yang’, built on the highest peak in the area. The peak is so steep that the flying eagles have to raise their belly up to reach the tower for a perch. Finally we arrive at Mutianyu section, full of tourists and also stunning sceneries. You can hike down to the parking lot or take the cable car/toboggan down (cable car/toboggan is optional with extra fee) if you are too tired. The driver will meet you there and will transfer you back.
