Shaanxi Historical Museum is a very famous provincial museum in China. Shaanxi nurtured the ancient Chinese civilization, so it is a place full of treasury historic relics. The Shaanxi Historical Museum opened to the public in 1991 and soon became an influential one. Its buildings were designed in the ancient Tang (618-907) style, making it solemn and one of the first-class museums in China.
Shaanxi Historical Museum occupies an area of 65,000 square meters. The color of black, white and grey give the buildings a solemn sphere. The museum collects over 370,000 ancient items, making itself one of the largest museums in China. It has central air-conditioning and multi-functional lighting systems to protect culture relics.
Shaanxi Historical Museum is divided into several sections. The Basic Exhibition Hall has three subsections arranged in time order. The No 1 exhibition displays the items from 1.7 million years ago to 206 B.C. of the Qin Dynasty (221 B.C.-206 B.C.). No 2 Exhibition Hall on the second floor shows you the history from 206 B.C. in Dynasty Han (206 B.C.-220A.D.) to 589 A.D. in the Northern and Southern Dynasties (386-589). Great inventions like papermaking happened in this period. The No 3 Exhibition Hall focuses on other dynasties in China’s ancient history. Here you can find all splendid sights of China in your mind.
Next to the Basic Exhibition Hall, there is the Theme Exhibition Hall. Exhibitions here are often theme-oriented and focus on the special region of Shaanxi Province, such as the “Shaanxi Pottery Figure Exhibition” and the “Buddhist Culture Relic Exhibition”. The East Exhibition Hall, equal in size to the Theme Exhibition Hall, is used for contemporary exhibitions. It is a valuable opportunity to see an exhibition here in right time. Exhibition’s themes vary depending on the detailed showing schedule. Exhibitions of relics, arts, frescos, calligraphy and many others are being showed here in the hall.
