'Mogao' means high up in the desert and the grand Mogao Grottoes, located on the eastern slope of Echoing-Sand Mountain, is the largest, best preserved and richest treasure house of Buddhist art in the world. Today in the Mogao Grottoes, 492 grottoes still stand, containing 2,100 colored statues and 45,000 square meters of murals. After dinner, drive to your hotel in Dunhuang.
Day 2 Dunhuang-Beijing Meal(s): Breakfast Attraction(s): Echoing-Sand Mountain, Crescent Lake Today Arrangement: Have breakfast and then visit the Echoing-Sand Mountain and Crescent Lake one by one. Echoing-Sand Mountain means 'Singing Sand Mountain'; however, it is not really a mountain, but a giant sand dune. Sand-surfing, camel rides and therapeutic sand baths are available activities in the exciting place. Then is the Crescent Lake, looking like a blue crescent moon enchasing in the desert. Though having been lying among these sand dunes for thousands of years, attacked by numerous strong sandstorms, the lake still gurgles clear and still reputed as the first spring in the desert. Leave for Dunhuang airport and fly back to Beijing.
